If you are there baseboard heat covers are showing their age from different layers of paint, rust or physical damage, it is possible to DIY’er to replace them. Just not real with ease, the rear wall pieces rarely suffered any damage just because they are out of harm’s way.
Baseboard heat covers and the piece moves ventilation but often missing or lost vent hinge. Kicked or scratched front cover and paint deteriorate over time making them unsightly. Replacement piece to piece it is often impossible as manufacturers change their designs just enough that the new front cover will not fit on the old model. The new front cover also requires the replacement of the rear panel as part of ventilation and the front mounting cover are different, too.
Using a screw gun, unload bar and a pair of metal snips of good quality, the elimination of old pieces are not too difficult. Not to say it’s not a pain in the ass but wearing a pair of gloves to prevent injury from baseboard heat covers is a great idea. The trick is to do the removal and replacement without removing or damaging the heat pipe itself.
